The research achievements of urban residents travel mode choice can provide theoretical references for development of urban traffic demand management and advanced traveler information system, guide the residents to choose more reasonable way to travel, urge urban traffic system to operate efficiently. This paper based on the integrity and individual difference of the urban residents travel mode choice as the research direction, considering the costs generated in the travel. Considering the network consisted of cars, buses and subways. This paper put forward the applying the user equilibrium theory and prospect theory to discussed the inherent law of residents’travel mode choice from macroscopic and microscopic aspects. The study has to combine the actual status of the urban residents travel in the peak period, on the basis of application user equilibrium theory and reference bottleneck theory, establish equilibrium models of travel mode choice considering having bus lanes or not. By an example, Firstly, with bus lanes or not, analyze the differences of the travel number distribution, On the way to delay time of residents arrive on time and trip costs, the result shows that bus lanes greatly affect travel number distribution and trip costs in the peak travel period. Secondly, further analysis of the relationship between the subway fares with the number of travel distribution and the trip costs. This paper considering the uncertain features of the urban travel environment, summarizing the reference point setting of prospect theory model and study the reference point of expectation trip costs considering travel reserved time and travel time of travel modes, and travel mode choice model based on the prospect theory is established. Construct examples of different kinds of residents and different travel reservation time, analyze the results according to expected utility theory and prospect theory model respectively. Research result shows that prospect theory model is more consistent with the travel mode choice behavior of residents. In addition, this paper taking into account the general situation of residents travel with both equilibrium model and prospect theory model.when the network and relevant parameters settings was the same situation, the same study results were consistent. For example, subway mode was selected by most people because of its convenience and promptness. That is to say, the result of the study both has complementarity and sameness no matter from macroscopic or microscopic perspective.
