High-speed railway, representing advanced tech level in the world, is rapidly developing due to the advantages such as high speed, safety and comfort, large carrying capacity, eco-friendly, etc. The requirements for the running safety of high-speed railway are more stringent, since the train running speed and load increase constantly. Pantograph-catenary system is one of the three basic relationships of high-speed railway. The safe running of pantograph-catenary system is faced with serious challenge resulted from train speed increasing. In recent years, the pantograph-catenary arc occurs frequently along with the increase of separating rate and off-line degree. The influence of the pantograph-catenary arc on pantograph sliding board, catenary wire, power quality, communication signals and radio signals threatens the train running safety seriously. Compared to the traditional switch arc, pantograph-catenary arc has its own particularities: the burning arc is exposed to the the atmospheric environment, the length of arc varies with the change of pantograph-catenary vibration gap, the dissipation of the arc energy is related to high-speed airflow field and thermal radiation during train running. Therefore, it is critical to study and analyze the pantograph-catenary arc from the perspective of the generating reason and formating mechanism.Based on the particularities of the pantograph-catenary arc, the generating reason and formating mechanism of pantograph-catenary arc have been introduced in this paper; The influence of arc model parameters on the arc characteristics has been achieved by analyzing the classical models of the arc; Based on the theory of transverse blowing arc and longitudinal blowing arc, the influence of high-speed airflow field on the power dissipated of pantograph-catenary arc has been studied; Based on the theory of energy balance, considering stretching and compression of the pantograph-catenary arc column and the energy exchange under strong airflow, the dynamic arc model has been established. Further, the established model is applied to analyse the electrical characteristics of pantograph-catenary arc in three train scenarios, which are the arc raising, arc droping when the train is static and the arc burning when the train is running at 200km/h. The main work is summarized as follows:Based on the concepts of arc discharge, the external characteristics of the arc have been analyzed, and the components and the physical characteristics of the arc have been introduced. Pointing at the phenomenon of the pantograph-catenary arc, the formating mechanism and generating reason of pantograph-catenary arc have been discussed.Through building and simulating of the classical arc model, the influence of arc model parameters on the arc characteristics has been analyzed. Based on the theory of transverse blowing arc and longitudinal blowing arc, the influence of high-speed airflow field on the power dissipated of pantograph-catenary arc has been researched. Based on the energy balance theory, the dynamic pantograph-catenary arc model has been established by using Matlab/Simulink simulation software. Stretching and compression of the pantograph-catenary arc column and the energy exchange under strong airflow have been considered during model building. Through comparing the results of simulation waveforms and experimental waveforms, the dynamic pantograph-catenary arc model has been proved to be reasonable.Using the established dynamic arc model, the electrical characteristics of pantograph-catenary arc in three train scenarios, which are arc rising, arc droping when the train is static and the arc burning when the train is running at 200km/h are analysed. Finally, through comparing electrical characteristics of pantograph-catenary arc in two pantograph-catenary arc burning processes, namely static and dynamic, the relevant conclusions of pantograph-catenary arc have been obtained. This dynamic pantograph-catenary arc model provides a theoretical basis for studying the characterstics of pantograph-catenary arc when the train is working under different conditions.
