During the Meeting on November 17 to 21, 2014, Chinese Beidou Navigation Satellite System has been adopted into the Global Radio Navigation System officially by MSC which is responsible for enacting the standard of international shipping. This means that Beidou Navigation Satellite System has become the third marine satellite system which is recognized by United Nations after American GPS and Russian GLONASS.Owing the independent satellite navigation plays an irreplaceable role in military strategy, civilian areas and business fields. For the time being, our country has made a series of policies to support the significant industries and fields which are involved in the country’s economy and public safety. It has also stated clearly the development strategy that the industries should transit to applying Beidou Satellite Service System which contains other satellite navigation systems. What’s more, Marine Navigation and Positioning must be one of the significant fields in which BDS plays a role.Navigation’s dependence and demand of satellite positioning system is known to everyone without saying. Based on features of ship-borne navigation, this paper will develop a multi-mode intelligent navigation terminal based on GPS and BDS which consists of hardware and software. As far as the hardware, the compatible GPS and Beidou’s multi-mode-combined passive navigation chipset and single-chip are applied to develop the hardware module of Beidou navigation to realize the reception, delivery and transmission of navigation information as well as to show the location in ENC. As for the software, Beidou’s active module is adopted to develop the terminal of ship-borne navigation. By doing so, it could provide message service and location service. What’s more, the application software visual C# is also applied to provide intelligent accommodation service which includes the collection, storage, delivery and integration of information, one-key-press alarming service and message communication service.Either from the perspective of fee or from the Country’s security, BDS does play a significant role in the management, security information as well as positioning and navigation of both business boats and fishing boats. What’s more, the message service of BDS largely improves the quality of sailors’ life because the communication cost is quite high at sea. Last but not least, the research on the BDS terminal provides more valuable technical reference for industrialization and market extension of BDS.
