Our school with a military unit jointly developed a new type of hydraulic catapults; the team designed a new type of composite buffer system completes the whole braking process by a overflow valve, rope wheel brakes system, slider and a buffer hydraulic cylinder jointly, in order to meet the buffering requirements of massive ejection at a high speed. Author conducted a detailed theoretical analysis and structural design on this system, as well as author conducted a simulation analysis of the sports performance of the buffer stage, and some useful conclusions are obtained finally. Firstly, according to the requirements of hydraulic catapult proposed to buffer system, the author designed several different work programs of the buffer system on the basis of a detailed analysis of work principle and work process of the ejection phase, by comparing the performance characteristics and applications of various buffer solutions, ultimately determines the overall work plan of the combined buffer system. Secondly, to buffer process as the research object, this article established the mathematical model by using power bond graph method, and wrote out the simulation program by using the MATLAB combined with the mathematical model, the constraint condition, initial values of state variable and Runge-Kutta method together. A series of characteristic curve are obtained by computer simulation. With the above validated simulation model, by changing the value of the main working parameters, such as the slide quality, piston rod diameter of the buffer hydraulic cylinder, pressure setting of the relief valve, braking torque of the brake system and the throttle valve size, etc, the simulation analysis is carried out, the influence rule of the main components’ working parameters to buffer performance are obtained, and the main parameters of the system are determined. According to the simulation results, the final structure design of the brake system of rope round, the buffer hydraulic cylinder and the slide block, the pulley and the rope round and hydraulic system are done; a virtual assembly model of hydraulic catapult is established by using Solid Works software. The new hydraulic catapult has been successful test flight on December 29, 2014, and the composite buffer system is running well. The research conclusion can provide the theoretical reference for the similar buffer systems’ structure design and performance analysis, also provides a new idea and method for developing the buffer system of high-speed engineering field.
