Recently, the earthquake occurs frequently all over the word. Our country also had the disaster of Wenchuan, Yushu and so on. As the center of highway transportation, the damage of the bridge may led to the destruction of the entire traffic network. So the research on the seismic performance of the bridge has become an urgent problem to be solved. In recent years, the scholars all over the word put forward a damper in bridge. When the earthquake occurred,the seismic force will transfer from the bridge to the damper first. As a result, the effect of seismic force worked on the bridge will be greatly reduced and the seismic performance of bridge will be improved.A new kind of ring stiffened steel damper which is easy to produce and have the advantage of simple structure, economic and practical forward firstly in this paper. To provide a reference for the design and manufacture of new type steel dampers, we can have cyclic loading on the steel dampers by the ANSYS, a large finite element analysis software, and analyse the influence of different parameters including energy dissipation about new steel damper and the strain distribution.Then, we make the B10 type steel damper and have a test about the energy dissipation about it. As we all guess, the results which is consistent with the analysis of ANSYS show that the new model of steel damper has good energy dissipation capacity.Finally, an example of bridge, a 20 m 11span T beam, is given in this paper. We have MIDAS CIVIL on the example of nonlinear time history analysis and the internal force analysis of self vibration cycle, the maximum displacement of pier and girder in different conditions.The analysis results show that, the new steel damper in bridge structure can reduce the self vibration cycle since the earthquake, the displacement in the telescopic girder joint and improve the seismic performance of bridge structure, which effectivelyprotects the bridge structure.
