Rural-urban fringe area is the transition zone of urban and rural areas. The intersections of this area are interchange nodes of a variety of traffic flows. Many kinds of traffic mix at these nodes, include the interval transportation, urban to rural transport and connections between urban and rural transportation and other urban areas. The road safety in this area is poor, and the accidents happen frequently. It is not only about the traffic system safety, but also affects the development of the entire region. Therefore, it is necessary to proceed the intersection safety improvement technology research in rural-urban fringe area.Against the problems of frequent accidents in rural-urban intersections, the author firstly selects and investigates several typical intersections in Chongqing. With statistical data analysis, the author analysis the intersections in rural-urban fringe area combined with plane intersection geometric characteristics, traffic management characteristics and traffic characteristics. Secondly, on the base of traffic conflict data acquisition, the traffic conflict technique and gray correlation analysis method is used to analyze and sequence the various influence factors of the intersection plane safety. According to the analysis of influence factors, intersection traffic conflict severity criteria are determined firstly. Then the relationships between traffic conflicts and traffic volume, speed, turning-left vehicle proportion and the proportion of large vehicles are revealed. Besides, the combination of urban and Rural Ministry of intersection safety properties is analysed. Finally, the study puts forward safety improvement objectives, principles, ideas to improve and the intersection of safety improvement measures and selection methods specific safety improvement measures which is applicable to rural-urban fringe zone. Aiming at the Beibei Bridge intersection application, the author has formed a comprehensive safety improvement program and used VISSIM simulation to verificate it.By the study, intersection traffic conflicts in rural-urban fringe area could be reduced, and the road safety could be improved. Further more, the number of accident in these intersections could be decreased, while the traffic efficiency is increased. These are important to ensure the road safety in rural-urban fringe area intersections and the sustainable development of surrounding area.
