Nowadays Metro is expanding rapidly of major cities in China, increased demands for metro technology on all aspects are needed. The overall system is very large and complex, especially the train operation control system which is the core of the metro. It is the integration of a variety of sophisticated equipments and technologies. On the other hand, the complexity causes difficulties in the operation, maintenance, and malfunction detection. Therefore, the simulation technology which used for imitating the environment and operation process is required. It helps to display the actual train operation process everywhere as people will. The visual simulation technology just suits this requirement. The technique applied to the metro scenario can provide a realistic environment and help users to study the metro trains operational characteristics further.This paper presents the Metro visual simulation system which is based on Chengdu Metro Line 1, provides users the virtual simulation environment of driving, operation and so on. It also includes the module realizing the train operation control. In general, it is a desktop visual simulation platform and meets users’requirements of completing the driving and controlling process simulation. The paper is organized by the modeling process, the visual development process and the train control simulation module design process. The simulation testing performance is the final conclusion.This paper starting from the 3D modeling chooses the Multigen Creator modeling software as the main platform of design to imitate the real operating environment for metro and introduces the basic processes and contents for establishing the model. The paper describes the visual development process based on Vega in detail, especially the method based on the C language interface. Then the paper also focuses on the design of the train control system simulation module which is comprised of the ATS simulation module and ATP function module and introduces the driving operation displaying interface. The communication ways and contents between system modules are also taking on. The simulation performance of the overall system draws the conclusion.The proposed method can realize the metro operation and control simulation. The modeling tool used meets the environmental requirements. The visual driver software and control method can achieve the real and smooth demonstration effect. The operation control simulation module is able to play its role in the operation. The simulation system has a satisfying function and can acquire the expected performance.
