Buildings (structures) deformation monitoring and analysis can help to understand not only the engineering behavior and safety, but also get the first-hand information for the buildings (structures) workability to diagnose the structure health, realize online security monitoring, early warning and enmergency planning for building security guarantee.Fisrt, the purpose, significance and necessity of deformation monitoring and analysis is summarized in this paper, more details of deformation monitoring discipline are also presented.Secondly, starting from the characteristics of deformation monitoring and methods, the principle of the deformation monitoring technology and stability were analyzed, which including the classification of precision, distribution, evaluation, detection of the gross errors, stability test and analysis.Then, as an example, safety monitoring and surveillance are analyzed according a dam engineering practice. The monitoring methods were discussed using the measured raw data, the main measurments include horizontal displacement, vertical displacement and rainfall volume and dam leakage, etc.To ensure the safety of dam operation, promote the progress of engineering design and construction technology, as well as a reference for the diagnosis and reasonable reinforcement of dilapidated engineering, the monitoring system are analyzed and summarized. According to the engineering and scientific research on the hydraulic dam safety monitoring, some reasonable suggestions are concluded.
