With the rapid increase of the population density and traffic demand in big cities, the subway system is playing a more and more important role in people’s lives. In order to satisfy the needs of passengers, in the 12th five-year-planning period, the Beijing Subway sets the goal of reducing the headway to 2 minutes. At present, as the newly opened lines are put into service, the Beijing Subway consists of 18 lines serving a total length of 527 km. The average daily demand of over ten millions becomes a daily phenomenon. In the scenario of large network, long range of management, huge passenger load and much equipment in service, achieving the goal of further line capacity increase does not only mean increasing the running time and frequency of the vehicle, and the using time of vehicle equipment, but also involves applying the scientific maintenance methods to ensure quality of maintenance, and reducing the maintenance time. The maintenance work of the urban rail transit vehicle is faced by new requirements and challenges.Gucheng maintenance center is one of the first metro vehicle maintenance bases in China. It mainly undertakes the daily repair and maintenance work of the vehicles in Subway Line 1, and a part of the vehicles in Batong Line. Because it was built in the early age, Gucheng maintenance center is specific for DC driven vehicle (retired), it does not satisfy the maintenance demands of the new subway vehicle for the outdated maintaining worksite and equipment. In order to adapt to the development of modem vehicles enterprises at home and abroad, and to improve the level of maintenance and repair capacity of subway vehicle, modernization and intelligent management of the Beijing Subway vehicle maintenance is addressed in this dissertation based on the more than 40 years’vehicle repair experience in the Beijing Subway. To this end, the reconstruction project of Gucheng depot maintenance base is taken as a case study. The work mainly includes maintenance scheme and base modification. First, the metro vehicle maintenance systems, maintenance and management methods at home and abroad are compared and analyzed in terms of literature review. And this part involves the subway of Paris, Japan, Moscow, Hamburg, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and so on. It is suggested that applying hierarchical and diversified maintenance mode, and further improving the efficiency of vehicle maintenance on the premise of security could be the guidance for the upgrading work of Gucheng maintenance base. In addition, according to an in-depth investigation and analysis on the current management mode, some recommendations of reconstruction project of Gucheng maintenance base are proposed. In regard to the problems including outdated maintenance approaches and tools, low efficiency, poor application of information technology, the corresponding suggestions are provided:the process layout should be optimized; advanced equipment should be introduced and reliability and maintainability indexes should be emphasized during vehicle purchase; quality control and information feedback system should be improved in the asset management.Research results and applications of this dissertation can be a guideline for the construction of modern AC vehicle maintenance base.
