Tapered carbon fiber reinforced plastics cylinder is space dedicated pieces, its’hole machining quality has an important impact on the security and performance of the aerospace devices. The previous manual processing methods are difficult to achieve high efficiency and high quality process because it has the characteristics of larger size, irregular shape and complex processing requirements. Due to the limitation of structure and processing requirements, the existing numerical equipment is unable to complete the process. It is necessary to develop a set of dedicated automation equipment to solve this problem. Aiming the subject of processing angled holes in the tapered composite cylinder, a special hole processing equipment should be designed, it is significant for improving the efficiency and accuracy of hole process.After the introduction of the topic background and description of the research significance, a comprehensive review was conducted in the aspects of technology development and machine application for CFRP process in the domestic and abroad. Based on these information, the research contents were commenced in the following aspects:The hole processing theory of composites was studied exhaustively, and then the defect problems were pointed out in summary. To settle the requirements of processing holes of different angles, feed scheme of processing unit is proposed. On the base of feed scheme, the overall design scheme of the machine layout is developed. The design scheme of the machine was presented according to related requirements. The overall function was decomposed into three major parts:rotation positioning table, feeding systems and hole processing assembly. The relative motion of the three parts was arranged in accordance with the process steps, to ensure the reliability and rationality of the movement. Feed system including horizontal feed unit and vertical feed unit, uses the movement form of cartesian coordinate. Hole processing assembly is the core of the device, processing station rotate around the axis to the desired angle and feed along the rail, which facilitates to achieve the stepped hole machining. Parallelogram linkage subtly realized positioning of the work piece and processing unit, to ensure the positioning accuracy.Based on the CAD/CAE technologies and the engineering software Pro/Engineer, starting from the general scheme, detailed structural design for each sub-function devices is developed, the three-dimensional solid parametric modeling of equipment is completed. Then virtual assembly and motion simulation of the components were carried out in order to check if there was volume interference or movement interference. Moreover, for the purpose of researching deformation features of the structure under loads action, the key parts of the machine were studied by finite element analysis in taking advantage of the ANSYS Workbench software, improved the structure and optimized the design eventually. Analysis the processing assembly and try to increase its natural frequency, so as to avoid the resonance, complete the overall optimization of the device. Finally, a dedicated machine for processing tapered composite cylinder has been designed.
