With the rapid development of urbanization in China, huge quantities of buildings will be designed and built in the following decades. Practically, in the past the eco-friendly buildings and green design details, which affects the qualities of houses and buildings, were not lucubrated by the architects and real estate developers, consequently lots of energy were consumed by the sector of buildings. However, green buildings currently become more acceptable and the passive design ways undoubtedly are the most effective and easiest energy saving methods, therefore the pursuit of the green buildings details and more comfort indoor environment definitely will be the most important points in the whole building design process in the future markets.Well-designed natural ventilation system and daylight methods are the key factors in the improvement of house energy saving and thermal comfort, thus this paper studied the passive design strategies which regarding to the natural ventilation and daylight for the houses in the cold climate areas, moreover taking the existing natural ventilation and daylight classification research as foundation, the ultimate aim is to explore the new passive design methods in the combination of wind and daylight system.Chapter 1 is introduction. The research significance of this paper was determined by analyzing the current construction situation and the future potentialities. And the research key areas and technical route were set up according to the summary of existing domestic and non-domestic natural ventilation and daylight studies. In chapter 2, the evaluation index and evaluation method of natural ventilation and daylight are established. Establish the benchmarks and methods for the building assessment and future quantitative analysis. In chapter 3, the practical measurement and investigation of houses were carried out.Determine the effectiveness of the natural ventilation system and the daylight performance by measuring the indoor carbon densities and daylight factors. The research collected the feedbacks from the occupants by using the questionnaires and summaried the existing ventilation and daylight comfort problems.Chapter 4 is Software simulation and analysis. Since there are lots of factors affect the performance of ventilation and daylight, manual measurement and investigation are not enough for the research requirement, therefore software simulation could provide more accurate assessment by deep studies and quantitative analysis of the influencing factors. In chapter 5, we carried out the classification research of natural ventilation and daylight factors. This chapter carried out a detailed classification study of the influencing factors of natural ventilation strategy and daylight performance in houses, particular in the areas of some important factors’affecting levels and changing trends. Moreover by combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, more intuitive summary of the impact of residential types, windows, and shading devices on the ventilation and daylight performance was conducted and the propose design optimization strategies were suggested. In chapter 6, we probed the passive design research of the combination of wind and daylight. According to the previous research and foundation study, this chapter will carry out a deep research about the passive design strategies of houses’combination of wind and daylight systems. The key research areas include the residential zone climate conditions, houses’orientation, the layout of the houses and the opening types. The ultimate aim is to find the best combined point between natural ventilation and daylight systems, then providing the more scientific options and detail design methods.
