The development and utilization of underground space in residential areas is conducive to the enlargement of spatial capacity of urban land. Based on the idea of sustainable development, the basic visual problem of underground space has become a hot issue that attracts more and more attentions. But there is still a lack of systematic and scientific research on the underground space natural illumination, and the research on natural illumination design strategy in response to a specific region is very scarce. At the same time, there is no standard guidance for underground construction natural illumination design. However, with the rapid development of Chinese real estate industry, more and more residential areas are supported by a certain number of underground garages, while the underground construction natural illumination is rather poor, which is bound to affect the quality of optical environment of residential underground garages.This research takes the Harbin residential underground garage as the research object, and starts from the in-situ investigation, combining the method of observation and field measurements, in order to find the illumination value of the lane and parking space in underground garage. Through qualitative and quantitative system analysis, the factors contributing to illumination environment of underground garages have been summarized and identifies into classes, and the feasible domain of a single variable has been obtained through the combination of GB calculation and Radiance simulation, so as to provide data basis for side window illumination design strategy; in order to further investigate the natural illumination design of underground garage, the profile form and daylight collector specification have been further studied, combined with researches on natural lighting from other underground buildings and the research purpose in this paper, the standard component of skylight mining has been put forward, so as to provide references for natural lighting design adapting to the specific climate and territory in severe cold regions.
