The calculation of the port channel capacity is an important issue in the planning and construction of coastal fairway. Determining a scientific and accurate computational analysis method can improve the efficiency of loading and unloading berths and reduce shipping costs to be parked. However, the calculation of port channel exist many complicated cases, such as random factors in the port channel, relatively large ship density, so calculation of port channel adopted the traditional experience formula is not yet ripe on the accuracy. This paper introduces queuing theory and discrete simulation thoughts; therefore it could be truer, accurate to solve computational problems of port channel capacity.Firstly, this paper recommends the basic theory and calculation formulas of queuing theory, elaborates M/M/C queuing model, deduces arrival rate, service rate of service agencies, average queue length, average wait length, customer waiting time and expected value of sojourn time of formula in the model of queuing system average. Meanwhile this paper introduces a discrete system simulation theory, queuing theory parameters would be applied to simulate for the port channel simulation model.Secondly, this paper puts forward the concept of port channel capacity and analyzes its influencing factors the beginning of simulation modeling, this papers amends channel capacity calculation formula to calculate the number of simulation desk. Afterwards this paper analyzes the law of vessel arrival and berth time in the simulation implementation stage. Meanwhile, this paper verifies the law of vessels the average arrival rate obelized Poisson distribution and determines the time of vessels in berth obelized the second order Erlang distribution by using discrete simulation software Rockwell Arena Input Analyzer. Eventually, the using of process modules Arena (Flowchart Module) and data module (Data Module) and entities (Entity) data queue (Queue) data and resources (Resource) data are applied to establish the model of port channel through capacity simulation model, derives some parameter of vessels in the port channel, such as ship arrival time interval, ship waiting time, waiting for the length of the ship and berth utilization, and then draws the relational graph between them via MATLAB. These data provides the basis for expansion channel planning.Finally, the port channel capacity simulation model constructed would be put into use for the application specific port Changshu Port. Meanwhile the port channel parameters and port service capabilities (AWT / AST) could be calculated; simulation models built dynamically can change the law of ship arrival in order to get the best channel and berth capacity utilization. This paper compares the simulation model results to the actual port data; the simulation model based on the queuing theory has been proved to be the accuracy, authenticity and stability.
