Energy is one of the most important elements of human life and production from the ancient time, especially since the industrial revolution. Nowadays, human’s consumption of energy has been growing at a tremendous rate. Today, human is facing a severe energy crisis.On one hand, the reserves of traditional fossil energy is dwindling, on the other hand, the consumption of oil, coal and other traditional energy brings massive pollution problems.Under this background, human is actively studying and using new energy which is renewable and has no pollution to replace traditional energy. Solar energy is one of ideal new energy at present and in the future.Nowadays, solar photovoltaic power generation system has been widely used, how to improve the power efficiency of photovoltaic system has been a hot research. In order to maximize the power generating capacity of PV systems, people has invented the technique of maximum power point tracking(MPPT). The optimized controller between the photovoltaic battery and load or battery adjusts the load of photovoltaic cell timely through a certain algorithm, so that the photovoltaic cell is always working at the state of maximum output power.In order to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic power generation system, this paper takes the small independent photovoltaic power generation system as the research object, and studies the maximum power point tracking technology in-depth. First of all, this article introduces the development of photovoltaic power generation system, the research significance and background. After studying the working principle and simulation mathematical model of photovoltaic cells, the paper takes the real photovoltaic battery component characteristic parameters as the simulation basis, obtained the photovoltaic cell’s characteristic curve of output current, output power and output voltage by Matlab/simulink.The paper analyses several commonly used algorithm of maximum power point tracking,including the perturbation and observation method, incremental conductance method and some intelligent control algorithm, then invents an improved algorithm, and tests the effectiveness of this algorithm by simulation. The design of photovoltaic system controller which is based on Boost DC/DC circuit realizes the maximum power point tracking. Finally,this paper analyses and designs a energy storage system of photovoltaic power generation based on super capacitor.
