Study On Traditional Dwellings And Settlement Of Handan Area Based On The Critical Regionalism

China Handan is an area that has a long history cultural heritage. It has been a capital here since Warring States Period. Generous natural environment is the matrix that could nurture regional culture. And under the combined effect of humanity factors,the local characteristics have gradually established.In this paper, Handan traditional houses will be studied. Based on the study of general traditional dwelling houses, the researcher studied its regional residential status that conduct a comprehensive investigation. The researcher,at the perspective of critical regionalism, critically, dialectically look at the characteristics of the local residences.Combining theoretical research methods,it deeply analyzed the surrounding area,cultural customs, the settlement formation, site selection and distribution, street space,the type of traditional courtyard houses and architectural features. The researcher summarized various types of traditional dwelling houses and settlements from three parts: mountain area, hilly area and plain area in Handan. It tries to find out the unique geographical features and element symbols belong to the traditional dwelling houses and settlements from different areas. The paper will provide resources for the protection and inheritance of traditional houses and settlements.Firstly, the paper points out that the regional study of traditional dwelling houses is very urgent. Secondly, try to find the theoretical foundation, the advantages of Critical Regionalism and the combination of the theory and traditional houses. Thirdly, the paper introduces general current residential situation of Handan. Finally, from macro to micro, from settlement, courtyard type to decorative material, the paper analyzes the regional identity of traditional houses dialectically, which would give good advices and lay the foundation to the protection and development of traditional dwellings in the future.
