The Primary Reasearch On Traditional Dwelling Houses And Settlements In The Western Area Of Honehe Autonomous Prefecture Of Yunnan Province

In terms of natural environment, historical and cultural background, the western area of HongHe autonomous prefecture exhibit patent diversity. In terms of geography, this area can be divided into four segments. In history, this area successively experienced three processes of cultural confluence.Now this area preserves various traditional residences and settlements with distinctive characteristics. These traditional residences belong to the lineage of two major architecturalcultures: -- "QiongLong" and quadrangle dewelling. These two architectural clutures are indifferent stages of development. Buildings in the line of "QiongLong" which constructed by vernacular materials are adapted to climate to the greatest extent. Buildings in the line of quadrangle dewelling reflects Confucian ethic and etiquette. In various traditional settlements are there many advantages that are worthy of our study and use for reference.With the deterioration of enviroment caused by human exploitation and cultural Homogeneitization coming with cultural globalization, traditional residences and settlements in this area are confronted with unprecedented crisis. Protection and development must be equivalent emphasized. In some cases, we can borrow from ancient experience to perfect our developmental pattern; in other cases, we have to find out our own ways in practice.
