With the Western Development strategy actualizing, more and more highway and railway in west mountain started construction. Because of the lineament of the west area, more engineering problem need to be solved. In this paper take the Tangfang high slope beside the road from Chongqing to Kunming for example, and have a systematic appraising on failure mechanism and stability, trying to give a valuable date for reference.This paper basing on the survey data and the scene research the topography, hydrology, meteorology, hydrology, atmosphere and geological structure, according to the structure judge the failure mode is sliding broking.Take the method polar stereographic projection of qualitative analysis and numerical simulation and SARMA of qualitative analysis. By polar stereographic projection analyzing, the paper found that the slope was cut into wedges by two joints and the rock strata. The wedges maybe break down in the rain and earthquake. By using SARMA and numerical simulation software UDEC, Slope instability in the overall is unlikely in the common condition. In heavy rain conditions, due to the rain soaking and eroding the slope, the strength of the structure and the rock mass have decreased, the slope is in critical conditions and it may lose stability. The paper imitate the earthquake by input sine wave in the bottom, for this, the slope is in the station of instability.Finally, the paper imitate the rock caving way by the Rocfall. Give rock fall drop distance, speed, energy, bounce height probability distribution in the table. Recommend to take protecting by passive protective net with monitoring and warning device.
