In the phase of the scheme generation, one of the most important work is to select the structure styles. The quality of the structural form is directly related to whether the building is safe, applicable, economical, and aesthetic. With the progress of science and technology, more and more new structures and new materials are developing and applying, the structural form tends to be more diversified and complicated. It plays a vital role to the building’s function, security, durability, and aesthetic feeling, therefore today the structure selection becomes one of the most important topics of the architects and structure engineers.The network shell structure is a kind of new developed and viable spatial structures, its good performance make it widely applied to the design of large-span space structures. The network shell structure is various in forms, and its structural form has directly affects various aspects of the structural function characteristics, such as the shape, the rigidity, the intensity, the seismic performance, the wind-resistance performance, and the economical performance. Therefore the election of structural styles is one of the most important decision-making works in the phase of the network shell structures’ pre-designing.This paper mainly studies about the structure selection of the long-span double-layer reticulated shell structure under the large wind load. First of all, the basic types and main characteristics of the reticulated shell structures were summarized, then putted forward the general principles of structure selection.Secondly, discussed the structure selection of reticulated shell combined with Nigeria’s new Minna stadium by establishing five different structural forms, and then choose the most appropriate model of the project by comparing their structural performances and economical performance. Compared with the similar projects in China, the wind load is larger with the basic wind pressure value of 1.1 kN/m2.More then once, according to the characteristic of the big wind in Nigeria, analysed the wind-induced response by using the method of numerical simulation, obtained the influence factors. Made a further conclusion about the relationships between the wind-induced response with surroundings, and the wind-induced response with the structure forms.
