Research On The Maintenance And Revival In The Archaic Zone Of Suzhou

As an ancient city with a long history, the particularity of Suzhou is that in the history of our country, it is the first city designed according to the water network, also is one of the ancient city which still well preserved nowadays. With the development of social economy,now Suzhou is moving into a new times. However, the ancient city should make a choice between the modernization style and the old future in the development.First, the article shows the concept of the water alley landscape, and then sorted out the origin, value and the elements of the landscape. Based on the re-analysis and reorientation of the features which were in the water alley landscape. The water alley landscape should be treated as an integrated system in order to activate the value in use of the ancient space and from a land and water alley system which would be suitable for the modern city. The core of the system is the tributaries of the water alleys and the space which is out of the building groups. Finally, the article introduced the modern design trend and complexity science to discuss the effects for the system. This thesis is trying to solve the contradiction between development and protection in the ancient city of Suzhou.
