Regional Characteristic Research On Newly Built Public Buildings In Ancient City Area Of Suzhou Since The Beginning Of Reform And Opening Up

China is going through the great development of city construction. Great construction,high-speed urbanization and impact of internationalism and globalization all result in the less difference between many Chinese cities with the passing of time. On one hand, since1980 s, many Chinese scholars have done in-depth research on the theory of regionalism.On the other hand, many excellent regional architecture appears in ancient city area of Suzhou during more than 30 years, which pioneers in the practice of Chinese regional architecture and has good representativeness and demonstrated significance. Therefore, the author tries to analyze and summarize the regional architecture works in ancient city area of Suzhou for more than 30 years, which may provide certain valuable studies for the future practice of regional architecture.In the paper, the author firstly introduces relevant theory and development of regional architecture, cultural background of the ancient city, and practice of regional architecture.Secondly, some public buildings that have representativeness, built since the beginning of reform and opening up, are respectively analyzed. The time of regional architecture practice since 1978 is preliminarily divided, so that the design methods of regional architecture in the cases are analyzed and summarized. Thirdly, the statistics analysis is conducted according to the time development and design methods, to analyze the characteristics of regional design and changes of development in newly built public buildings for more than 30 years and summarize the overall design and construction characteristics in different period. Finally, the inheritance and changes of regional characteristics of public buildings in the ancient city area of Suzhou are concluded. Also some principles that can be followed are put forward for the future practice of regional architecture.
