Snowdrift is a weather phenomenon that snow moves with the wind. It will lead to the redistribution of snow. In some areas, the thickness of the snow may reach 3~8 times to natural snow thickness. Snowdrift is one of the most serious forms of snow damage in our country railway transport. Snowdrift damage is very serious to railway transporting and farming. The people’s possessions and life are threatened seriously by snowdrift disaster. Therefore, studying the snowdrift is significant for railway design.The appearance of railway’s snowdrift disaster requires three conditions: the enough source of snow, the wind which can sweep snow, the ground which makes the accumulation of snow easy. The paper summarizes the content which contains the causes of railway’s snow disaster and its control technology. Using the Fluent calculation software analyses the distribution of wind speed in different slope ratio and different height(depth) of the embankment(cutting), to provide reference for the design of embankment(cutting).The main work of this paper is as follows:(1) In the aspect of the causes of railway’s snow disaster and its control technology: this paper summed up the accumulation and control of snowdrift disaster. At the same time, the principle, classification and influence factors of several common snow removing method were introduced in detail.(2) In the aspect of the introduction and use of the numerical calculation software: this paper summarize the control equations, turbulence model, numerical method and solving process of the calculation software.(3) In the aspect of the calculation in the embankment surface wind speed: the numerical simulation of three different slope ratio and three different height of embankment surface wind speed were calculated by Fluent software, this chapter obtained the effects of slope ratio and height on embankment surface wind speed distribution. The surface wind speed of the actual embankment is studied by numerical simulation, then this chapter also analyzes the region where is easy to appear snow in embankment and snow protection measures optimal settings.(4) In the aspect of the calculation in the cutting surface wind speed: the numerical simulation of three different slope ratio and three different depth of cutting surface wind speed were calculated by Fluent software, this chapter obtains the effects of slope ratio and depth on cutting surface wind speed distribution. The surface wind speed of the actual cutting is studied by numerical simulation, then this chapter analyzes the best setting scheme of measures to prevent the snow around the cutting.
