The volume flow of the large and medium-sized reciprocating compressor is remained unchanged, improving the rotation speed of the compressor could reduce its size. The operation mode of the compressor with variable frequency control could start induction motor soft for reducing the starting current impacting the power grid, adjust the rotation speed of the compressor automatically for saving the energy consumption. Because of the movement equivalent quality of the traditional valves in large and medium-sized reciprocating compressors are so biggish that increasing the rotation speed of the compressor would deteriorate the reliability of its valves. When regulating the rotation speed of the compressor, both the economy and the reliability of the valve are poor due to the inertial force of its motor element change too rapidly to match well. Therefore, studying on new valves for adapting the high rotation speed and the frequency conversion of the large and medium-sized reciprocating compressor is quite important.The plate-reed valve is developed for adapting the high rotation speed and the frequency conversion of the compressor. The friction plate is transformed into the plate-reed and the working face of the valve guard is the rotating surface. The spin axis of the working face is the fastening screw axis. The generatrix of the working face consists of the line segment and the arc segment tangent with the line. The root segment of the plate-reed is fixed, so it works with zero friction. The plate-reed valve could apply to compressors with oil or not. The valve guard has no spring eye so that it’s thin enough, thus the clearance volume of the suction plate-reed valve is quite small.The initial stiffness coefficient, the initial movement equivalent quality, the root stress, the natural vibration frequency and deformation of the plate-reed are acquired by the static and modal analysis. Combining with ANSYS and MATLAB, the valve motion is simulated by the plate vibration mechanics model. Ignoring the propagation of the stress wave, the dynamic response of the plate-reed is obtained by ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Finally, what influence on the maximum stresses of the plate-reed are analyzed. Compared with the traditional valves in large and medium-sized reciprocating compressors, the plate-reed valve is most suitable for the high rotation speed and frequency conversion of the compressor.
