In recent years, the development and utilization of the vertical axis wind turbines has been widely appreciated. Power loss of single turbine and even affect wind energy equipment utilization efficiency of wind power plant were caused by array in wind power plants and the wake interference. Single wind turbine, double rotor and triple rotor of different arrangements have been simulated using the CFD. The main work and results are as follows.(1)In this paper, using the numerical simulation technology, using a two-dimensional N-S equations is unsteady incompressible, and turbulence model chosen for RNGk-e model. Equation discrete method is based on the finite volume method(FVM). Discrete scheme is second order upwind. Discrete equations solving method is SIMPLE. The rotation condition is based on the flow field region using the sliding mesh method.(2)Vertical axis wind turbines airfoil select the NACA0015, and wind wheel is H type. When researching the single vertical axis wind turbines aerodynamic performance, using numerical simulation methods to get the best stand-alone installation angle and optimum tip speed ratio of 6°and 1.4.(3)In order to study the flow field characteristics of vertical axis wind turbine arrays. Based on the single VAWT research, getting the double rotor and triple rotor aerodynamic characteristics of the flow field. At the same time, defining a normalized power coefficient. Firstly, it ensures that the counter-rotating VAWTs is feasible.To reach the conclusion of counter-rotating VAWTs, when a certain space, getting the normalized power coefficient of different wind angles under every tip speed ratio, and the best wind angle at different tip speed ratio; at a given tip speed ratio, getting the best wind angle different under different space, and the optimal spacing when a certain wind angle.To reach the conclusion of triple rotor, it ensures that the bionic theory of fish schools is effective for VAWTs. when Space1 is constant, the normalized power coefficient of three VAWT vary widely with changing of Space2;when the Space2 is constant, changing of the normalized power coefficient is not uniform with Space1 different of triple wind turbines.
