The differential, one of the important parts of an automobile transmission system, is mainly used to distribute the torque and rotating speed transmitted from gearbox to two wheels on left and right side as needed, whose performance and reliability will directly influence the quality of the whole vehicle. Under the premise of ensuring the reliability, the paper optimizes the differential of Chery A3+1.6DVVT automotive with the object of minimizing of volume and maximizing of allowed transmission power.Firstly, according to the requirements of the dynamic performance of the Chery A3 automotive differential, the paper, based on the theory of mechanical reliability design, establishes the multi-object optimization design model with the constraint condition of the differential’s reliability and the design object of the minimization of volume and the maximization of allowed transmission power. Then the model is resolved by programming with MATLAB optimization toolbox.Secondly, since the general reliability design which based on the (0,1) two-value theory is not accurate enough on the design of the differential with fuzzy factors, the paper, based on the fuzzy reliability theory and fuzzy optimization design, constructs the multi-object fuzzy reliability optimization model of the differential. By the use of the method of optimizing level cut set, the fuzzy reliability optimization model is transformed into the general optimization model in the paper. In contrast to the result of the general reliability optimization, fuzzy reliability optimization design can obtain better optimization effect.Finally, based on the result of the fuzzy reliability optimization, the paper constructs the 3D model of the automobile differential with UGNX software. Meanwhile, the subsequent development of bevel gear in the differential is also accomplished to facilitate the 3D modeling of the differential.
