With energy depletion and environment deteriorating,"Energy-Saving and Emission Reduction" has gradually caused more and more people’s attention. EEDI’s mandatory implementation has brought higher requirements for ship design and construction industry. The main engine is marine power plant’s core, its energy consumption accounted for more than80%of the entire ship, and the engine’s performance will directly affect the whole ship’s energy efficiency level. In the background of EEDI, the paper focusing on the research in the impacts of some related parameters’set on the EEDI during the process of main engine’s selection based on three green ship-Dolphin38.8K,64K and82K designed by SDARI. To achieve a scientific, objective and reasonable assessment on the engine’s selection, using the EEDI as one of the indicators measuring the quality of engine selection and establishing the comprehensive evaluation model for marine engine selection.Firstly, systematically studying the basic theory of ship energy efficiency and power plant selection, analyzing the calculation method of EEDI and EEOI, and its impacts on the shipping industry.Secondly, analysis the main affecting factors of EEDI. From the perspective of EEDI formula, analyzing the impact of main design parameters on the EEDI, and focusing on the related technologies and parameters selection’s impacts on EEDI. Giving some qualitative methods to enhance the ship’s energy efficiency.Thirdly, using the EEDI as one of the indicators to evaluate ship’s engine selection, establishing the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model of main engine selection, and make sure the weights of all the evaluation indicators and elaborating the model calculation process and its correctness based on the engine selection of one82000DWT bulk carrier. Finally, using the net present value (NPV) method to research the economics of marine engine’s selection and analyzing the cost which can be discounted of all the alternative engines during the whole life. Using one certain engine as the standard to compare the investment difference and payback period to state that the engine which can improve EEDI will have good economic performance in the whole life.
