Research And Realization Of Video Transmission And Control Between Micro Quadrotor And Android Platform

Quadrotor consists of four rotors into a "+" shape, and the speed of each rotor can be controlledseparately. Quadrotor can achieve the functions of flight, hovering, rollover, steering and so on.Quadrotor has the characteristics of flight stability, flexible control, fast reaction, etc. Traditionalquadrotor is controlled by a big remote controller, and it is not portable. Micro quadrotor isequipped with micro camera and WIFI module, using the Android device as a remote controller. Wecan control the quadrotor, and also we can take photos and record video at the same time. Thereforemicro quadrotor has the characteristics of high portability, strong practicability, etc.Android has a relatively high market share among mobile devices. We can use smartphones,tablets, etc. as a remote controller easily. Android devices have good touch experience and supportaccelerometer, gyroscope sensors. We can control the micro quadrotor with accelerometer sensorand store the photos、videos at the same time. There is so much material that we can developAndroid application easily.Based on the early development of the quadrotor, this paper achieved the real-time videotransmission between micro quadrotor and Android phone and the controlling of quadrotor byAndroid phone. The main contents are as follows:1. Video capture by the wireless video module of micro quadrotor, and video transmissionthrough WIFI;2. The wireless video module of micro quadrotor transmits the control signal which sendedthrough WIFI to the quadrotor via the serial port;3. The android platform software development, including Socket programming, JPEG imagedecoding and displaying, and the quadrotor control signals.Finally, the performance of the system is tested and summarized, and the amendments of howto improve the system are given.
