The cast-in-place RC hollow flat slab is a new kind of floor system with a promising market future due to such advantages as lightness, large span, good seismic behavior, and decreasing the synthetic cost. It has different mechanical characteristics as compared to common flat-slab floor due to the hollow pipes embedded in the floor. Therefore, study on its basic mechanical behavior, and corresponding computation and design method are of great importance. This article begins from an experiment on a building with RC hollow flat slab structure. Through analyzing its real characteristics under load, and comparing with practical analysis methods, we could know the effectiveness or disadvantages of these theories. Then FEA software ANSYS is used to simulate the field experiment, comparing with the data obtained and to analyze the ultimate load-bearing capacity of the RC hollow flat slab, getting its dehiscence load, destruction load, development and distribution rules of displacement and stress. At last, main factors that affect the behavior of RC hollow flat slab are summarized and analyzed. After the experiment and numerical simulation studies, and comparing with the existing theories and methods, we could give opinions and suggestions to the inadequate or incomplete part. And the results in this article can be the reference to future studies and engineering.
