| Water is the fundamental factor of human survival. Because of that, the place where closes to secure and stable water supply is the optimal choice that our ancestors make to live in. The spring water exposing in the surface of the ground is easy to discover, tastes clear and pleasant, feels safe and convenient to use, streams greatly and is appropriate to build homes. For the reason that, many structures are built near the spring, and such the place is the ideal environment in whichpeople live together before the dug wells technology appears. In GongLiu in the Greater Odes in The Book of Poetry,’There are many springs on plains region which is suitable for the construction of city on the southern highlands. Measure the sun’s shadow in the mountains, survey north-south and yin-yang, and watch the flow of water and spring". Seen from that, ancestors live near the spring in the long history, and gradually form the spring settlements, which is the special and traditional settlement pattern. In the spring settlement, people can thrive through the natural spring water. And different types of spring space, leading to spatial variation and characteristics of event, are unique with very high research value."Spring space pattern language" takes the physical and psychological dependence as a starting point, and the spring water as a primitive element of "spring space". After interacting with other natural and human factors, the element produces continuous changing existences, which are the basic vocabulary based on the "spring". And these changes follow certain rules which are material exhibits in the language materials mode of spring settlements and space places. Related to humans’ action, even a tree, a road, the spring can form a mode that is a word and a sentence, which can be used in other circumstances after replacing subject or adjective appropriately.In this paper, to get a whole comprehensive understanding on the spring settlements in Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei and Henan province, two kinds of spring space, for example fountainhead space and the fountain overflows space, are cognized as a three-dimensional entirety in which can accommodate people live and experience. And spring space with invisible attraction take fixed venue for humans’ activities. That is to say, this paper focuses on the exploratory summary on typical pattern language.The whole thesis can be divided into three parts. In the first part called introduction, based on research background about spring settlement and the purpose and meaning of the paper, the possibility that introduce Alexander pattern language into spring settlement is discussed, and by that the integration of typical spring spatial patterns take the study of a pattern language as the basic idea. In the second part, that is the second chapter, the concepts and expression patterns relevant to Alexandria pattern language is described separately, and two directions of study is defined according to the space mode and event mode on the structural pattern language. The third part includes the third, fourth and fifth chapter, and is the nuclear context in the paper. From the three-dimensional spatial scales, relations and boundary characteristics, three space characteristics of fountainhead space and the fountain overflows space is analyzed respectively, and typical pattern of each part is extracted while event language is crossly integrated, and the features of these spatial pattern language of spring and their relationships is shown by language description and diagram illustration.Different patterns of fountain space demonstrate the deep emotional branding between human’s behavior and impression upon the spring. And this glorious kind of interactive experience between human and nature sharply means that we want to maintain and continue the spring settlements even the majority of traditional folk village. The author wishes to provide modest help to maintain and continue the spring settlements with the typical pattern language of northern fountain space that the paper gets. |
