Safety performance of building is a issue that every building workers will pay moreattention. Fire safety design of buildings take an important position in safety performance ofbuilding. The safety performance of binding in fire safety design have been an obviousimprovement by National construction regulations for Fire safety design. However, somebuilding space beyond conventional scale can not be satisfied by traditional fire protectiondesign method. The performance-based fire protection design is a kind of Fire resistance ofdesign that consider performance of building first. It has been mature theoretical support andpractical application since1970s.At present, there are some performance-based design livingexamples of large-scale commercial buildings around national. In these instances, performancebased fire protection measures will be made for commercial building’s atrium. But it’s in alack of analysis of performance-based fire protection for some kind of commercial building’satrium, include multilateral scene set and data sample with reference value.In this paper, we account the present situation of domestic fire safety design of large-scalecommercial building at first,represent and generalize fire protection measures of commercialbuilding’s atrium,and introduce Performance-Based Fire Protection Design. PFPD is a newmethod based on practical requirement and rational analysis.It sets up performance objectivethe fire prevention system will achieve by Fire Safety Engineering,forecasts dangerous levelsand assess fire aftermath. If there are qualitative or quantitative controlling means to damagebuilding fire might cause, they can be considered in design. PFPD will play a part ofoptimization and simplification.Secondly, it is expounded in detail about commercial building’s atrium in Chapter3.Based on the consideration of performance-based design of this inter space, the author of thisarticle classify the commercial building’s atrium with a perspective of architectural design,represent the space shape of two types of atrium and canopy design. After investigate andsurvey some large-scale commercial building in Nanjing,It is definite that common scale of two types of atrium and canopy modeling. Last and important, integrated PFPD thought way and research findings of atrium, theauthor of this article made models of two types of atrium with fire dynamics simulator, anddesigned multiple parameters fire scenario. After numerical simulation, we get flue gasdistribution temperature data in different fire scene. These data could provide temperatureboundary conditions for structural calculation, in a addition to the Personnel evacuation timeand the highest temperature in the scene of fire. The conclusion of this article is also areference to performance-based fire protection design of the same type building.
