With the development of society and technology, people’s daily lives become more and more intelligent. Smart Home is an important application of Internet of Things (IOT), which is a direct reflection of intelligent life. Smart Home system is applied on residential environment and makes use of the embedded technology, the sensor network technology, the network communication technology and the automation technology to connect the whole home terminal units and as a result that the system can achieve presence or remote control of these home terminal units so as to create a comfortable, convenient and intelligent home environment for user. Smart Home Gateway is the core part of Smart Home System and possess the following two functions:the first is to achieve the information communication and exchange between internal network and external network, such as to achieve the protocol conversion function; the second is to achieve the centralized control and unified management for home equipment, such as having the ability to add various interface equipment and dynamically extend the amount of equipment. This thesis proposes a design principle based on the requirements analysis of the Smart Home gateway platform. With combinations of those technologies that currently applied to Smart Home gateway platform, this thesis designs and carries out a Smart Home gateway platform based on embedded system. Also based on the designed platform, we propose a video data capture module to deal with the video data.Firstly, our project chooses an ARM-core chip named S3C6410as the gateway’s processor based on the market survey and technique analysis, and designs and deploys the peripheral circuit of the system. After the circuit configure, the Smart Home gateway has the ability to process different units and terminals which have different interfaces, such as network interface, GPIO interface and video interface. Secondly, our project chooses the Linux operating system as the operation system (OS) of the gateway based on the requirement analysis of our work. Based on Linux OS, the GPIO driver and video driver are developed and achieve a universal video interface design which can acquire the video information quickly. Finally, this project deploys this Smart Home gateway platform in a real Smart Home system. Base on the application scenarios, the thesis designs an application program to achieve the goal that users can use IPAD as the universal remote control and the gateway as the server to intelligently control the whole system including the security systems, the home theater, and the lighting equipment and so on.
