Earthquake is one of the worst natural disasters to mankind.In the past,earthquake has caused a large number of casualties and property losses. While most ofearthquake casualties and property losses due to destruction and collapse of buildings.Reducing and avoiding seismic collapse has become an important direction ofengineering structure safety researches.Because of widespread use of RC frame structure in China, the research on thecollapse behaviors under severe earthquakes is very important, and has great practicalvalue and social significance.This paper focuses on a RC frame structure’s ability to collapse in severeearthquakes. Using SAP2000finite element software,failure level was evaluated bystructure’s horizontal displacement and plastic hinge’s development degree on the endof beams and columns.It shows by time history analysis: under action of severeearthquakes, structure deformation is larger on the1st and2nd floors than the otherfloors. By push-over analysis, it indicates: under action of severe earthquakes,columns plastic hinge’s development degree are more severe than that of beams’, itlead to the phenomenon of strong beam-weak column. By that, we can evaluate thestructure damage degree is severe. Then changing design, according to structurehorizontal displacement and plastic hinge’s development level on the end of beamsand columns,we can evaluate its performance, and compare that with the initialstructure.It indicates: after re-design,because of the colums’ section becomebigger,the stiffness of structure increases, structure horizontal displacement becomesless,the degree of members plastic hinge’s development decreases,the structuredamage model changes into medium, structure anti-earthquake capacity is improved.Through analysis, improving bearing capacity and stiffness is very important tostructural anti-seismic capacity, and that is a very direct and effective method.Our work in this paper provides helpful references and advices for theanti-earthquake design methods of RC framework in future.
