Analysis Of Constructional Techniques Of The Temples In Song And Jin Dynasties In The Hutuo River Basin Of Shanxi Province

As the divide of Yellow River Basin and Haihe River Basin,Shanxi Province has many rivers.The Hutuo River originates from the county of Fanshi in Xinzhou area, and it is the branch of Ziya River System that belong to Haihe River Basin, furthermore,the Hutuo River Basin in Shanxi includes six counties and cities of the eastern part of Xinzhou area:Fanshi、Daixian、Yuanping、 Xinzhou、Dingxiang、Wutai. In this area, there are many buildings structure left in Song and Jin Dynasties, they not only distribute along the Hutuo River, but also surround into an irregular semicircle, and all of them are gathered round the central Buddhist Shrine——Mount Wutai.By using the research methods of field survey and contrastive analysis, I have attempted to make "the constructional techniques of architectures in Song and Jin Dynasties" as a primary access point, and study the regional features in the constructional techniques of these Song and Jin Dynasties buildings that are located in the Hutuo River Basin of Shanxi Province. As a result, it not only provides some reference materials for researching this kinds of ancient buildings of the other areas in Shanxi, but also establishes the necessary theoretical foundation for studying the constructional techniques of Song and Jin Dynasties buildings of some areas that outside the province and in this river basin.This paper is divided into six chapters, and it is discoursed from the three parts separately:Part One:This part is consisted of chapter one and two. In this part, it firstly introduces the area features of Hutuo River Basin in Shanxi. Based on the relevant background information, the author discussed the features of this research region from the three points:"Architecture and River Basin","Architecture and Buddhist Culture",as well as "Architecture and the Special Time and Environment for Construction",thus can deduced the necessity and feasibility of studying this area, meanwhile, that also laid theoretical groundwork for the further research.Part Two:This part is consisted of chapter three and four, that is the analysis of regional features for construction. In this part, the author selected three representative examples firstly in this area, and analyzed the constructional techniques of them separately, in order to finding their commonalities. Then, these commonalities were compared with the counterparts of 《Yingzao Fashi》(Song), and according to these counterparts, the other Song and Jin structures left of this area and several of temples in Song、Liao、Jin Dynasties beyond the region, also have been compared with each other. At last, for the architectures in this area, we can obtain the general characteristics of regional construction techniques about them.Part Three:This part is consisted of chapter five and six. In this part, the author analyzed the factors that affect the regional construction features in this area, and concluded this paper, meanwhile, also put forward some discussion for protection of heritage and ancient architecture. In this thesis, the writer researched the above influencing factors from the three aspects of this river basin in Shanxi:Human Settlements、River Basin Culture、Constructive System, after that, showed the individual opinion to the protection of heritage, and summarized the article in the end.
