Mountain high-grade highway construction has become an important part of thehighway development with the constant improvement of China’s highway network. However,vehicle traffic safety also will become the important issues of one high-profile, especially thepresence of continuous long and steep in mountain high-grade highway, which has becomethe focus of traffic accidents. Road construction had to overcome the height difference of themountain through continuous long and steep due to the terrain, economic conditions. But thedesigner and manager improve the traffic safety problem by setting the truck escape rampsfor reducing the incidence of traffic accidents. Through the analysis on the continuous longand steep for causing traffic safety possibly and operating characteristics of vehicle on thecontinuous long and steep, the truck escape ramps design are carried out in research,combined with the truck escape ramps design examples.The existence problems on truck escape ramps currently and the significance of solvingthe safety issues on the continuous long and steep section are indicated by safety analysis onexisting truck escape ramps. According to the analysis on accident statistics, operating speed,the relationship between the brake temperature and vehicle operating speed and the maximumoperating speed under the vehicle losing control, the main reason for traffic accident andpossible danger state of vehicle on continuous long and steep section are pointed out. Basedon the analysis of vehicle braking characteristics, the position settings of truck escape rampsare demonstrated by engineering experience, traffic safety accident rate method and brakeperformance analysis. The reference values of the truck escape ramps setting in flat, verticaland horizontal three geometric design parameters are indicated combined with the vehicleoperating characteristics and the function and purpose of the truck escape ramps. Thestructural designing parameters are demonstrated integrate with the principle of truck escaperamps. At last, the necessity of truck escape ramps ancillary facilities is indicated anddemonstrated by the overall analysis of ruck escape ramps. The recommendation on the tuckescape ramps design are proposed combined with the application effect of ruck escape rampscurrently. And then for the perfect design of tuck escape ramps provide the technical andtheoretical support.
