"Mechanical drawing", which is universally known as one of the most important assignments to cultivate capability of imagination and logical thinking ability, as well as the capacity of representing a part with2D drawing for students based on orthographic projection technique, is an important compulsory machinery and mechanical course for engineering undergraduates. Parts drawing and dimensioning that could be deemed to the focus of course due to a finite number of courses and lacking of practical experience, have become the difficulty parts for teaching. Therefore, the research on training and dimensioning system of parts representation based on Inventor is developed.In this paper, the system can be established in the background of Visual Studio2010by using VB.NET programming language and combining with Inventor API Technology. The system insists of two modules:the training module of expressing parts and dimensioning module. Moreover, it also provides students with convenient, simple practice environment and user interface aimed at developing students’ability to express the projection and master dimensioning methods based on the theory of mechanical design and the provisions of the national standard of mechanical drawing. The main contents are as follows:(1) Designing system interface and function modules;(2) According to the teaching requirements, the model library was designed and created for students for the purpose of practicing independently;(3) On the basis of the express principles and requirement, expression program (non-uniqueness) and standard drawings were drawn. The spare parts were stored in the diagram database in the form of pictures. In addition, standard drawings were deposited in a drawing database in the light of the relevant provisions of the national standard drawing;(4) The Inventor rendering technology can be employed to modify the part model, with the result in accordance with the fact;(5) Taking the actual demand into consideration, the management module was designed to maintain the system, the main function was to add parts and right answer, as well as delete parts and right answer.The training module of expressing parts refers to four kinds of typical part model: bushings, box, roulette, forks, which greatly stimulate students’ interest in learning on account of the advantages of operation for Inventor. After choosing a part to practice, students can observe and modify parts from any angle characteristics freely from parts library. After completing the program parts express, students can contrast with the standard expression program from the answer library and modify their own programs.In the dimension modules, the system can automatically extract the students marked size after students complete dimensioning. Students can modify their marked size in accordance with the correct answer.
