The characteristic analysis of of earth rock-fill dam seepage is of great significance to prevent seepage failure and to reduce leakage loss. As the world gradually pay attention to use the water resources rationally, many kinds of large-scale water conservancy project have being built. Earth rock-fill dam is the preferred type of dam construction in the world because of the advantages of simple structure, convenient construction and management, strong adaptability to the natural environment. The earth rock-fill dam has the seepage phenomenon which not only decreases reservoir flow, but also may lead to the dam break, influencing the safety of dam. Therefore, the seepage characteristic analysis is an essential aspect of the earth rock-fill dam studying.Based on the previous research, the seepage characteristics and numerical simulation for earth rock-fill dam are closely studied in this paper. The main contents of this thesis are listed as follows:(1) Collecting the basic theoretical knowledge about seepage. Elaborate the basic calculating principles and specific implementation methods of the seepage finite element analysis. Summarize the development process and the vital function of numerical simulation in the analysis of earth rock-fill dam seepage.(2) Special research on two important seepage parameters, the soil-water characteristic curve and the unsaturated permeability coefficient curve, of the unsaturated seepage analysis on the rock-fill dam have been did in this paper. The SPAW software has been used to obtain the seepage parameters, combined with soil characteristics. With the consideration of the former seepage parameter mathematical models,1stopt data analysis and processing software will be used for data fitting and revision.(3) Through the comparison of similarity between temperature field and seepage field, the thermal analysis module turned out can be used to study the earth rock-fill dam seepage, and the specific research involved in the theory are introduced in this paper.(4) Combined with the specific project example, using the ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) and "element birth and death" technique, the stability of earth rock-fill dam seepage were analyzed. (5) Briefly resume the basic theory of earth rock dam slope stability analysis. Introduce several commonly methods of slope stability analysis based on the limit equilibrium theory. Summarize the finite element method of slope stability analysis.(6) Combined with practical engineering, the groundwater seepage module (SEEP/W) of geotechnical engineering analysis software GeoStudio has been applied to numerically simulate the steady-unsteady seepage and the saturated-unsaturated seepage of the earth rock-fill dam; The slope stability analysis module (SLOPE/W) of GeoStudio has been applied to study the slope stability under the influence of seepage of the earth rock-fill dam.Seepage characteristics analysis plays an important role in the research of earth rock-fill dam. The analysis method, the seepage analysis model and the numerical simulation results selected in this paper are reasonable and reliable, which can provide reference for the construction of earth rock-fill dam.
