In order to improve the human-machine interaction design of refrigerator, using the theory of situation awareness, this paper studied from two aspects:user interviews and usability testing.Ordinary people already have great difficulty using advanced features of digitally enabled household appliances, and the problem grows worse with time as more customization and programming features are added. In the actual production process, the household electrical appliance enterprises cannot afford to upgrade every single product because the limit of cost, so they have to make decisions between different products. At this moment, the usability difference between the products has become an important decision indicator.First we studied the characteristics of the user behavior and the operation while using the human-machine interaction interface of refrigerators, and according to the problem found in the interviews, then conducted a usability test for the refrigerator display control interface. This paper selected a group of objective measurements in the test to determine the usability level of three different refrigerator interfaces, also collected subjective ratings given by users as well. The result showed that the objective data this study chooses is not only consistent with the user subjective rating, but also can be used to compare the differences between similar interfaces. This paper is helpful to the enterprises that may have difficulty in choosing development potential product lines, and provides a reference for the future study of comparing the usability between similar products.Then by conducting the usability test of human-machine interaction interface of the refrigerator, we obtain a great quantity of the user behavior data, and a series of usability problems, which can be quite useful during the future design of refrigerator.
