Direct drive torque motor has been widely applied in Mechanical Manufacturing,CNC Equipment, Ordnance and Aerospace industries with its advantages of low speedhigh torque and ability to drive loads directly. Test and measurement of its parametershas also rasised great concerns from direct drive torque motor’s designers, producersand customers. Therefore, the research of novel direct drive torque motor automated testing systems has important practical significance to improve test efficiency, quality and to promote the development of direct drive torque motor.Considering the test engineering practice of direct drive torque motor and the combination of Instrumentation, automated test&measurement technology and direct drive torque motor characteristic parameters test, a direct drive torque motor automated test system based on Virtual Instrument was designed. The system consists of vertical reconfigurable mechanical platform, hybrid-bus sensor measurement and data acquisitionhardwares based on PXI bus, and automated test processing programs based on LabVIEW: to provide motor dragging and sensing platform with vertical reconfigurable mechanical structure, to collect data from sensing and measuring devices with data acquisition hardwares, to achieve the controll of multi-channel synchronous data acquisition, real-time data processing and graphic displaying, data storaging and other operations with automated test software.Direct drive torque motor parameters’ test methods, specific hardwares and software implementations are analyzed and studied in this paper, characteristic parameters data’s automated processing, displaying and storaging are achieved. The system has the ability to automatically test parameters of direct drive torque motor within40Nm~2000Nm nominal torque, like mechanical time constant, voltage constant, cogging torque, torque ripple, torque constant, torque speed curve, resistance and inductance, power effici ency, power factor, vibration and so on. Combined with practical test, a torque motorof self-propelled artillery servo table were tested and compared with its design data. Results show that system can test direct drive torque motor accurately, efficiently and conveniently, and has the ability to achieve characteristic parameters’s automated testing,processing, displaying, storaging, etc.
