North China where the Chinese civilization formed and culture built is the center of China and the urban modernization is fast here. The Capital Region develops coordinately and it initially forms the urban network system in modern times. Beijing is the political center and Tianjin is the port trade center and they are surrounded by medium-sized cities like Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao, Tangshan, Baoding, Zhangjiakou and a large number of small towns in the system, the echelon of cities here is clear and cities is close, therefore north China in modern times is worth us to study seriously.The public green spaces in Modern north China has experienced the historical process from the private to the public and from the absolute monarchial to the public. The kinds of public green spaces are complicated including:the imperial gardens, private gardens, altar temples, concession gardens open to the public green spaces; street green spaces, small gardens, zoos, the botanical gardens, nurseries, racetracks of new construction. The study combed the context of these public green spaces, the evolution process in each historical stage, and summarized the evolution characteristics, motivations and influence on politics, society and city.The paper aimed to illustrate the background that the public green spaces generated, the process of evolution and the influential factors in modern times based on surveying literature and analyzing the information of historical maps, regulations, classical gardens and historical figures. Finally, the paper proposes the characteristics of urban public green spaces of different types at different stages.The paper is divided into four parts. Firstly, it describes the research background and significance and the current situation of public green spaces. Secondly, it takes the cities in the Capital Region for an example to state the process of evolution of public green spaces at different stages and analyzes the reasons for change and the characteristics and reveals the effects on politics, social life and cities produced by the internal logic. Thirdly, it compares and analyzes the evolution process of public green spaces of different types of cities. Finally, it takes a summary about my paper.Finally come to the conclusion:(1) the evolution of public green spaces mainly experienced the following stages:the open stage from private to public; the thriving stage under the influence of western culture, policy; the mature and stable development stage where government attaches great importance to public green spaces, and recognized by people.(2) Evolution characteristics and composition of public green spaces in different kinds of cities are different.(3) In common political background, the main influencing factors of different kinds of cities public green spaces evolution are determined by the nature of the city.(4) The public green spaces provide places for political activities, the spread of ideas and entertainment, at the same time play a role of civilizing people, improving the citizen quality subtly, and optimize the urban space structure, and strengthen the deep coordination of the social structure and the public thought and public ideas.
