With the development of society, all industries’demand for electricity is growing larger. As a result, grid scale is expanding and the requirement of gird’s security and reliability is increasingly higher. Substations are important junctions which form the grid. Substation equipment plays an important role in the collection and distribution of electricity. Its safety and economic operation has become the core part of the stability and development of power system. For long-term security and stability of power system operation, carrying out substation equipment on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis is one of the indispensable means which is of great significance to reduce the accidents and improve the reliability of the equipment.This paper introduces the dynamic research on online monitoring technology at home and abroad and analyzes the necessity and feasibility of the application of substation on-line monitoring and auxiliary control system in power system and difficulties encountered in the present study, according to the current situation and trend of China’s power industry development.This paper briefly analyzes the online monitoring devices used in most of the domestic substation including monitoring of dissolved gas in transformer oil, monitoring of ground current of transformer core, partial discharge monitoring, insulation monitoring of capacitive equipment, insulation monitoring of metal oxide surge arrester, SF6 gas monitoring and so on. This paper also introduces the technical background of on-line monitoring and auxiliary equipment monitoring system such as hessian technology, multi-threading technology, the Quartz task scheduling framework and so on.This paper elaborates the composition and characteristics of the on-line monitoring and auxiliary equipment monitoring system from four aspects including business architecture analysis, application architecture analysis, software architecture design and physical structure design. It also analyzes the key technologies including data acquisition service for multi-threading device, dynamic plug-in protocol parsing class management, load balancing service and so on. In the end, it introduces the application of the research results and prospects for future work. Substation online monitoring technology is still in the stage of continuous improvement, with the development of electric technology, it should constantly perfect its functions and improve the accuracy of data analysis depending on the change of running status of equipment, and make greater contributions to the personal safety, power grid safety and equipment safety.
