With the deepening of the housing industry, steel residential use more widely. Size of the column section in frame structure affect households’ usage of space, small size column section can be used without reducing anti-lateral stiffness of structure by setting the way for brace. As to eighteenth floor steel housing, select proper structure proposals, study the function by taking advantage of analysis of pushover and dynamic nonlinear time history, and verify if it meets expected targets.By using Midas Building of finite element analysis to compare such three structure proposals as pure frame with large section of the column (500×500), braced-frame with small section of the column (400 x 400), braced-frame small section of the column (350 x 350) with standard of period, distance and steel quantity to select the best proposal. According to the specifications, set functional target 3(C) for the proposal and pushover analysis, adapt vibration mode and layer earthquake shear to load from X direction and Y direction. Then the basal shear, Inter-story displacement angle and the sequence of plastic hinge of four working conditions at performance point under rare earthquakes can be known. Next step is to dynamic nonlinear time history analysis, select two natural seismic waves(El Centro wave, Cape Mendocino wave) and artificial wave adapted to the condition according to related specifications. Then get time history response of structure under rare earthquakes, and compare this with analysis result of pushover.The data analysis result indicate that Inter-story displacement angle of structure meet the functional target 3(C). When earthquake comes, braces basically show the role of "the first protection line", and brace yield before steel beam. As a whole, the structure conforms to anti-seismic theory "strong column and weak beam".
