As the diminishing of global natural resources and the increasing of environment pressure, the demand of energy conservation and emissions reduction, environmental protection and sustainable development for the society is higher and higher. Developing the smart grid to alleviate the growing energy shortage and environmental issues has become an important solution. Smart electricity is one of the most important aspects of the construction of strong smart grid, and it is also the essence of realizing the change of power industry from "how to supply" to "how to use". Promoting the energy conservation and emissions reduction in electricity side, improving the energy efficiency of different terminal as far as possible, and improving the quality of power supply services at the same time are all the main strategies of the construction of the intelligent power in all countries. Smart home system based on the energy consumption management is in order to achieve the sections. The intelligent home gateway organic combined smart home equipment and security equipment together to unified management and control. At the same time it use the network technology to realize the remote control. The appearance of it provides home users a more safe, comfortable and convenient living environment. It also guides the users using the high-power electrical equipment avoiding the peak and play a major role in reducing power load.Considering the research status and development trend of intelligent home gateway, and combining it with the needs of people’s lives, this paper gives a smart home system based on energy consumption management and describe the design and realization of the intelligent home gateway in detail. In this Article, it points out that the intelligent home gateway is the key interaction equipment of family internal network and external servers and Internet. The hardware platform selected ARM series products LPC3240 as the main chip. Ethernet PHY chip select the KSZ8041 NL, which is low power consumption, small volume, waveform is stable and the cost is low, the communication between the gateway and the server using the custom clear protocol. Intelligent control module complete the interaction with the underlying equipment, and it include the smart socket controller, the intelligent home appliance controller and wireless security controller. They are all contain chips CC1101 which support the RF433 MHz user-defined protocol. It use wireless radio technology to achieve home networking and data transmission. The embedded software design and implementation of the gateway using the Eclipse development tool under Linux system, and it adopt the way of multitasking, multithreading and single process. The paper describe the main threads, Socket communication thread, task analytical threads, serial port communication thread, alarm clock and timer task threads and remote upgrade services. It also shows the program flow chart. Finally, through the test to the system function module, it verified its function can be smooth realized and fully meet the requirements analysis of the function of each module involved. In addition, through long-term test of power equipment, it has confirmed using this set of intelligent home system can reduce the energy consumption of the electricity side. It illustrates the combining of energy consumption management and intelligent home system is great significance.
