The bridge bearing that links the upper and lower parts of the bridge is an important part of the bridge structure. But its importance was always overlooked by engineers and researchers because of its low price and simple structural form. With the rapid development the construction of bridges in recent years, pot bearings are widely used on high-speed rail bridge and urban rail transit Bridge. Pot bearings are recognized by engineering researchers for the higher performance of bearing capacity, horizontal displacement, stability and rotational angle. Accordingly, basin rubber bearing and spherical bearings which have a nice performance in all aspects are gradually applied to new bridges. On the other hand, the failure of bridge bearings have resulted in serious damage to the bridge structure in the earthquake of previous years. Against this background, the seismic performance of the bridge bearing has become a new research focus. Nowadays research results and experiences of various types of bearings performance has been widely used in practical engineering, which will promote the further development of the bridge bearings research.In this paper, research on the mechanical properties of basin rubber bearing under the Effects of Earthquake has been carried out. And the study is based on the domestic and foreign research results of bridge bearings properties. Both of Finite element simulation and bearings prototype experiment are helpful methods to this study.The main content of the paper are as follows:1. Future research directions of bridge bearings is presented by summing up and sorting all types of domestic and international research results on bridge bearings seismic performance. Bridge pot bearings performance in the earthquake have been counted.2. Finite element model of the Niulanjiang Bridge has been created with finite element software. In the software, three models can be used to simulate bearings for response spectrum analysis and time history analysis. Comparing the bearing displacement processes of three models is the final work to find the advantages and disadvantages.3. To get the hysteresis curve of basin rubber bearing by the method of numerical simulation, which is conducted in another software. To discuss and analyze the pot bearings force-displacement relationship at different conditions, including simple harmonic and seismic input. It is also taken into account that the pot bearing under the bidirectional force may exist coupling effects.4. A horizontal pseudo-dynamic Experimental program of basin rubber bearing is formulated. Experimental input included the different displacement of simple harmonic and seismic time history.5. Numerical simulation and experimental results were compared and analyzed. Finally, we have investigated the effect of friction coefficient on the seismic response of bridge pot bearings.
