Study On Piling Hills And Placing Stones In Classical Garden Of Zhejiang

Pilling stone and placing hill skill is an effective method to imitate the natural in Chinese garden. Traditional pilling stone and placing hill skill of Zhejiang traditional garden is an important part of Zhejiang traditional Garden, also an important branch of pilling hill and placing stone skill of Jiangnan traditional garden. Because of the unique natural environment and cultural environment, it has some characteristics.At present, the pattern of the landscape design in China is heavily influenced by western modern landscape design philosophy. It is helpful for us to express traditional art, give emphasis to regional culture, consider innovation with studying on the design theories of pilling hill and placing stone in Zhejiang, inheriting and developing the traditional regional pattern of the landscape design.This paper research on the history, the influence factors and the design theories of pilling hill and placing stone in Zhejiang through the methods including literatures search, field investigation and case study. The significance of the dissertation lies in the following five aspects:Firstly, researched on the history of traditional pilling stone and placing hill in Zhejiang and analysed what affects the factors such as natural environment, politics, economy and culture had on its history.Secondly, illustrated the main kinds of stones that used in pilling hill and placing stone in Zhejiang traditional gardens and the famous designers that had a positive impact on it.Thirdly, illustrated the styles and features of placing stone in Zhejiang traditional gardens in the aspects that including “special-placing”, “pair-placing”, “scattered-placing”, placing beside buildings, placing with plants, placing with water and the use functions of placing stone. Also analysed what the intentions is to placing stone in Zhejiang traditional gardens.Fourthly, illustrated the styles and features of pilling hill in Zhejiang traditional garden in the aspects that including “pilling hill on the level ground”, “chiseling mountains to get the precipices”, “pilling hill depending on the precipices”, “designing with pilling hill and placing rivers” and “imitating the mountains and rivers”.Fifthly, analysed the problems we face in protecting the remains of pilling hill and placing stone in Zhejiang traditional garden and came up with some measures about them. Further more, illustrated how to inherit pilling hill and placing stone skill of Zhejiang traditional garden and use it in today,s landscaping works.
