Research On The Extensibility Of The Outdoor Space Of Colleges Based On Environmental Psychological Perspective

ABSTRACT:The sites of modern colleges are no longer only limited to classrooms, but are extended to the whole campus space. The outdoor space of colleges is the complex carrier for expressing the characteristics such as campus cultural atmosphere and humanization etc. In our country many colleges have their long history, in addition, colleges are expanding their enrollment in recent years, thus they are facing many problems existing during their reconstruction and expansion, and there are space wasting and other problems appeared on the campus space newly built, these have utterly deprived the vitality of the outdoor space of colleges in our country. In the design of the outdoor space in modern foreign colleges, there are many new styles appeared, no longer through extensive and transverse expansion of land for expanding the net area of campus, but through the approaches such as longitudinal development of space and integration design of campus, and establishment of these new design approaches and thought does favor a new opportunity to the outdoor space of campus. Extensibility of space is not only limited to the extension in outdoor space area, but mainly is about researching on the reorganization of space function and organizing form, or about creating a new kind of function and organizing form. This also is subject to the focused research aspect of the author hereof in researching the extensibility of the outdoor space of colleges.This article through methods such as literature collection and analysis, field survey, case analysis etc., starting with relevant environmental psychological theories, analyzes the extensibility study of the outdoor space of modern universities, and has analyzed out the design principle of space extensibility, finally combining with the actual case analysis, analyzes the embodiment of these principles and methods in the actual design. The thesis hereof is divided to six chapters.Chapter I Introduction, in which introduce the research project’s background, research objective and significance, research content, idea and method, and raise free imagination on the research achievement. Chapter Ⅱ is divided to two major sections, first section introduces relevant environmental psychological knowledge, including environmental psychological concepts, domestic and foreign development of environmental psychology, current status and its main research content, second section through the form of questionnaire conducts the research on the behavior characteristics of college students, summarizes the research in respect to the psychological demand of college students, and in which new characteristics are demonstrated. Chapter three redefines the definition of modern campus, introduces the classification for the outdoor space of colleges, and the development trend of the outdoor space of modern colleges, and problems existed in the outdoor space of colleges at the present stage, and introspection specific to these problems. Chapter four, Chapter five are key points of this article, Chapter four mainly introduces relevant concepts of space extensibility, and content of extensibility research of campus outdoor space, from two environmental psychological perspectives including the environmental perception, and the field and boundary, studies on the key points of design for the outdoor space of colleges. Finally under the guidance of environmental psychology, summarize the design principle for the extensibility research of campus outdoor space. Chapter five through the actual case analysis of the outdoor space of Beijing Forestry and Peking University, combining with the design principle summarized from Chapter four, introduces the research of space extensibility of the outdoor space of Beijing Forestry University.Chapter VI is the conclusion and prospect, in the hope that it could facilitate the research of vitality nourishing of campus outdoor space to some extent.
