As an important part of smart grid, residential user is absolutely different from industry user The energy management for residential user plays a key role of development of smart grid. The hunger for energy efficiency and management control become more strongly than before. Establishment of energy management system, provides solutions for power grid companies to achieve complete energy efficiency and management control for residential user.In this paper, ZG residential area is selected to be the research object. Through analysis of the current situation of ZG residential area, with demand side management idea, energy management system for residential user is researched and designed, and requirement analysis is done.In this paper, the system structure of home control layer, communication transmitting layer and application layer is designed. The system includes residential user power information sub-system, acquisition and control sub-system, auxiliary function sub-system and system management part. Aiming at each function an function module is designed, to make the system software more flexible and efficient. Internal business interface and external business interface of system and interface function are designed and defined..The residential user power information sub-system provides power using information inquiry, power billing information inquiry, power information issued inquiry function and power using schedule function by interface calling the grid marketing system. Acquisition and control sub-system provides load control module for each load type classified by system, to achieve energy-efficient and orderly use. Auxiliary function sub-system provides energy efficiency services and Knowledge management module for user and theoretical support for grid energy conservation. System management part provide system maintenance program for administrator to ensure the safe operation of energy management systems.Based on residential area environment, networking plan for communication network and load control network is designed, and system construction plan is also simply designed.
