Transmission line design is an important part of the engineering design of the power grid, and transmission line route selection is the basis of transmission line design, and it must comprehensively meet the national policy and the operational requirements. The route scheme can be bound by geography, cost and construction conditions, operation and maintenance conditions, etc. Routinely, to determine the final route scheme includes interior line selection, site survey and other steps. This process would be repetitive because the map can not reflect the actual geographic information. So route selection is a time-consuming and exhausting work.Content of this paper is to realize how to generate the transmission line route automatically based on geographic information system, and the research results have been applied by the project of power grid planning and engineering design integration platform. This project is to realize substation siting, transmission line route selection and optimization of tower qualifying based on GIS. This paper firstly analyzes the impact of the environmental factors on transmission line route and establishes a hierarchical model. Calculating the weight of environmental factors in the transmission line route selection with IAHP and establishing a network between the cells of GIS map. Establishing the least cost model of the line route with considering the environmental factors, line length and line corner. Its value is assigned to the directional path. Finally, using Dijkstra algorithm to obtain the line route, and the optimal route scheme can be recommend.This paper uses numerical examples and engineering applications to verify the feasibility of the method. The numerical examples are achieved through Matlab programming. In the engineering applications, the usability of the method is tested by integration platform software.
