Since the 1960 s, the automation of modern large-scale industrial equipment has improved constantly, although it can increase the production efficiency greatly, at the same time, it has increased the maintenance cost of the equipment, once the equipment malfunctioned, the resulting loss can be very serious, therefore, many countries begin to value and research equipment condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology. Along with the computer technology, sensor technology, signal processing technology, so much science and technology developing constantly, the industrial automation level has enhance unceasingly, equipment monitoring and fault diagnosis technology plays a more and more important role in the industrial modernization management gradually. Into the 21 st century, water resources and hydropower engineering has gone into a period of rapid development in our country, single unit capacity of hydropower station has increasing, the hydropower units running stability is good or bad is relating to quality of power supply and hydropower plant safety directly, in order to reduce the sudden accident and extend the life of the unit, it must have implemented on-line condition monitoring on the key equipment of hydropower station unit and at the same time, it can use the fault diagnosis technology of hydropower station unit to predict fault judgment and make the decision processing.This paper analyzes and summarizes the research situation of hydropower unit condition monitoring and fault diagnosis at home and abroad, it expounds the basic principle of hydropower station unit condition monitoring and fault diagnosis methods, and then combines Wawushan hydropower station’s NC2000 computer monitoring system with the application of unit condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology on its actual application effect, for this system has the faultness of unit vibration fault diagnosis of Wawushan hydropower station, this paper adopt the fault diagnosis method of grey system by comparison, and then proposes a fault diagnosis program for the hydropower station. At the same time, selects the 1# unit’s stability test data as the fault sample extraction parameters, selects the draft tube inlet pressure pulsation, the upper guider swing, the upper bracket vibration, the lower bracket vibration, the volute inlet pressure and the cover’s lower pressure pulsation as the system factor of 1# unit to analysis and calculation, it can get the conclusion after calculated and diagnosed: the draft tube inlet pressure pulsation of Wawushan hydropower station’s 1# unit maximum sensitively effect on the swing of the upper guider, which is inconsistent with the existing hydropower unit vibration fault sample, according to the principle of maximum relational grade of grey theory, it can find the fault type of the 1# unit’s upper guider swing creasing and axis running state by backward reasoning, and this is consistent with between the fault diagnosis scheme of 1 # unit actual repair processing results and the inference results, the fact proved that, the application effect of this fault diagnosis scheme is effective. Therefore, Wawushan hydropower station should adopt the fault characteristic sample in the subsequent unit vibration fault diagnosis.Due to the reasons of hydropower unit vibration is very complex in practice, the interference power source of unit vibration sometimes superimposed or sometimes offset, it has not yet formed a perfect theory of unit vibration analysis, therefore, it is very necessary to use the hydropower computer online monitoring system on the unit condition monitoring in the daily, it can control the units’ operating condition through implementing on-line monitoring on the various parts of the hydropower unit. This study compares unit running monitoring before and after Wawushan hydropower 1# unit overhaul, the results suggest that implementing on-line monitoring on Wawushan hydropower unit can safeguard the security and stability of the unit, and it can improve the efficiency of the unit overhaul by using the fault diagnosis technology on the overhaul of Wawushan hydropower station’s 1# unit.
