With the increasing capacity of integrated intermittent renewable energy generation, such as wind power, photovoltaic, there are more randomness, power fluctuations in the system generation side, which results in a change in the operating characteristics of the system. With the improved penetration of intermittent energy, the system presents complicated transient characteristics, which may lead the traditional protection and stability control devices malfunction. Establishing real-time digital simulation platform of demonstration grid with various renewable energy generation, is not only meaningful for the research of transient characteristics of the system including various renewable energy generation, but also necessary for the closed-loop testing of new protection and stability control devices as its integrated testing, which has a great significance for the construction of demonstration project. This paper established a real-time digital simulation platform of the demonstration grid with various intermittent sources based on the real-time digital simulator RTDS, the main work is as follows:An introduction of the demonstration grid, as well as its construction target and demonstration meaning are given in this paper. Combined with the situation of demonstration grid, the technology route and detailed programs of the real-time digital simulation platform construction are also given.The model of photovoltaic generation unit is built in the real-time digital simulator RTDS, and then related simulation and analysis is given. A comparison of the dynamic and transient response of two equivalent models of a photovoltaic plant is analysis through the real-time digital simulator.The model of doubly-fed wind generation system is built in the real-time digital simulator RTDS, and then related simulation and analysis is given. A comparison of the dynamic and transient response of two equivalent models of a wind farm is analysis through the real-time digital simulator.Through the simulation results comparison of electromechanical transient software package BPA and real-time digital simulation platform, this paper analyses the main reasons of the differences between the simulation tools.
