Storage battery is rechargeable, and it has many advantages such as stable voltage, low self-discharge and high cost performance. It has been widely used in the communication industry, transportation industry. The increasing demand of the battery prompts the development of the battery charger. Good performance, full-fatured intelligent charger is becoming a development direction. In this paper, in order to design an intelligent charger which has small size, efficient and stable charging process and perfect fault protection, the paper completes the follow works:Firstly, according to the design requirements, the charge mode and overall scheme is determined. After the analysis of common DC/DC switching power supply, secondary tandem two-transistor forward converter is selected as main circuit topology. The feasibility of the topology with PID compensation network is verified by the frequency domain analysis of main circuit model.Sencondly, according to the determined main circuit, the specific hardware is designed and the parameters of each device are determined in this paper. The circuit includes the main power circuit, sampling and conditioning circuit, control circuit based on MSP430F2418 and protection circuit.Then, the software system combined with the established charge mode is designed for intelligent charger based on the hardware platform. The system ensures the charger can complete the charging process stably ande efficiently with PID control in normal operating conditions. And when abnormal situation happens, the system can take protective measures and fault alarm in timely manner, ensure the intelligent charger safety and reliability.At last, this paper takes experimental test for the intelligent charger. The working principle of main power circuit toplogy is verified by the test of key parts waveform. According to the test of charging process, machine efficiency, fault protection and so on, the test results meets the expected parameter index.
