UAV application examples can be seen in many tasks, and the reconnaissance missions performed by UAV are the most common type. As there turn out to be more and more application scenarios in which UAVs are used, the formation of multi-UAV is required by complicated task. The reconnaissance effectiveness performed by the formation of multi-UAV was affected by task environment and UAV’s capability, so the reconnaissance mission-oriented effectiveness assessment of UAV formation has become a serious problem.Firstly, this paper introduced the basic theory and effectiveness assessment methods of indicators, analyzed the reconnaissance capability assessment of individual members of UAV formation, constructed reconnaissance capability assessment system of individual members of UAV formation. It also studied the properties and characteristics of the assessment indicators, designed a weight distribution model based on a combination of objective and subjective information and laid the foundation for the study of assessing the reconnaissance effectiveness of UAV formation.Secondly, through the environmental analysis of reconnaissance mission, this paper built three different UAV formation modes based on the characteristic of typical 3 UAVs. And analyzed the reconnaissance effectiveness evaluation model of UAV formation based on each UAV formation model. The simulation experiment results verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the model.Through the study of the reconnaissance capability assessment of individual members of UAV formation and the reconnaissance effectiveness evaluation model of UAV formation, this paper proposed a better solution for assessing the effectiveness of reconnaissance mission-oriented UAV formation.
